Pursuant to the Franklin County Zoning Code, the Franklin County Planning Commission hereby gives notice of public hearings to be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 6:00pm in the Franklin County Board of Supervisors Meeting Room located in the Franklin County Government Center, 1255 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 to which all interested parties are invited in reference to the following requests:
- PETITION for REZONE – Petition of Walter Luke McAllister, Petitioner, and Owner, requesting to rezone 5.25 acres from R-1, Residential Suburban Subdivision District to A-1 Agricultural District, for the purpose of constructing an agricultural barn. The property is located on the east side of Truman Hill Road between Truman Hill Road (Route 679) and Edwardsville Road (Route 680) in the Boone District of Franklin County, and further identified by Franklin County Real Estate Records as Tax Map/Parcel # 0110301800. The property has a future land use designation of Agriculture/Forestry Rural Residential in the adopted Franklin County Comprehensive Plan. (Case # REZO-09-17-15779).
- PETITION for SPECIAL USE PERMIT – Petition of John and Joanne Leary, Petitioners and Owners, requesting a Special Use Permit, with possible conditions, for a short term tourist rental use and a tourist and resort facility use, together totaling a maximum of two dwellings located on two tax parcels totaling 6.53 acres currently zoned A-1, Agricultural, and located at 7638 Jubal Early Hwy. in the Boone District of Franklin County, and further identified by Franklin County Real Estate Records as Tax Map/Parcel #’s 0060101400 and 0060101401. These properties are designated Conservation Areas/Steep Slopes on the Future Land Use Map of the adopted Franklin County Comprehensive Plan. The short term tourist rental of a dwelling, and tourist and resort facilities are permitted uses by special use permit in A-1 Agricultural Zoning districts per Section 25-179 of the County Code. (Case # 08-17-15754).
