The Building Inspections Office is responsible for ensuring public health, safety and welfare associated with the construction and use of buildings. The department inspects all building construction for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
The Building Code requires that a building permit be obtained from the Building Official to construct, alter, repair, add to and remove or demolish any building or structure in Franklin County, the Town of Boones Mill and the Town of Rocky Mount. Permits also are required for the installation of fuel and gasoline tanks. Regulations are designed to make certain all buildings and structures meet the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and setback standards.
Applications for all permits are filed in the Building Inspections office. Applications must be approved and fees paid prior to issuing a permit and before beginning any construction. Required inspections and a certificate of occupancy issued by the Building Inspections Office are required before a building or structure shall be occupied.
Information relating to permits and building codes may be obtained by calling the Franklin County Building Inspections Office.
