August 2010

  • August 4-Convenience store break-in

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a break-in to the Lucky Two convenience store in the Fork Mountain section of Franklin County. This break-in occurred during the night of July 31st or early morning hours of August 1st.

Entry was made into the store and a very large quantity of cigarettes was taken. A similar incident occurred at Food Lion in the town of Rocky Mount. We have also received reports of similar incidents in neighboring jurisdictions. Cigarettes, ranging in price from $40 to $50 a carton are being sold for half of that, usually out of state.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging citizens to be aware of this as they frequent stores in the county especially near closing time and to report any suspicious activity or persons to the Sheriff’s Office. A subject’s description and vehicle description is important if it can be obtained.

Anyone who has information can contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 483-3000, a non-emergency number, or dial 911. Investigator H.T. Woods is in charge of the investigation.

Remember, if something seems out of place, get a good description of the vehicle(s) or person(s).

July 2010

  • July 2010 - Break & Enters near Western end of Franklin County

Rencently we have had a few B&E's close to the Roanoke/Floyd County lines.  These jurisdictions are also working simular B&E's that include a credit card being used at convenience stores in Roanoke.  Our B&E's include jewelry, change and a checkbook that is consistent with Roaonke and Floyd.  It appears that suspect(s) are striking just off the 221 corridor.  If anyone has any additional information please give the Sheriff's Office a call.  Inv. Sigmon has this case.  If you observe a vehicle that is suspicious - get a good tag, location seen, date and time.

  • July 2010 - Pickup stopping at mailboxes

Received a call today from a resident off Poteet Rd. (North section).  They witnessed a small, blue pickup stop at mailbox/paper box.  Complainant initally thought that person(s) were placing something into paper box.  Further observation revealed person opening the mail box.  When suspects saw resident on porch, they sped off leaving the mailbox door open.  The only description available was a small dark blue truck that was lifted with large tires that roared.  Vehicle was occupied by two people, young white males.  Complainant advised that social security check come on that day, however they had previously gotten the mail for the box.
