TOPICS OF DISCUSSION: Please find below a summary of the topics that were discussed and relevant information regarding these topics. If you have any questions, please contact your Rescue Captain or Fire Chief for details.

  • The meeting was moderated by Public Safety Director, Daryl Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and thanking them for their attendance.

  • Chris Garrett from the Franklin County Health Department gave a brief presentation on Pandemic Flu. He presented information on what you need to know to protect yourself and others and how to keep from spreading this and other communicable diseases. For more information about this topic, contact Billy Ferguson.

·         Division Chief of Operations, Billy Ferguson presented the following information:

All biohazard bags that are thrown away at the hospital must be placed in a biohazard bag. Even if the trash that the biohazard bag contains is not classified as biohazard, all red biohazard bags must be disposed of in a biohazard container.

The administrative offices have a contract for biohazard disposal if any agency needs to dispose of biohazard waste, contact Billy.

Please use caution when responding in your personal vehicle to calls. Recently, responders in the own POV have been issued speeding tickets. Responders must adhere to all traffic laws in order to avoid being issued a summons. Also, POVs are not covered for damages by Franklin County.

A request was received from dispatch to pass along the message that proper and professional language should be used when talking on the radio.

Do not disregard a responding vehicle until such time as there is a transport unit on scene.

Due to FEMA requirements, resource typing will be done shortly. This resource typing will be done using criteria as set forth by FEMA. More information will be given on this subject as it becomes available.

Networking the computers with the Firehouse software has been completed at every station except Snow Creek. The Snow Creek area is still waiting on the tower site to be completed. Franklin County e-mail addresses have been completed for all agencies. Make sure that each department has a representative responsible for checking and emptying the mailbox associated with this e-mail address. Any questions should be directed to Billy.

Billy also advised everyone that the Public Safety Administrative offices have been contacted over the years by many individuals seeking volunteer opportunities. These individuals wish to volunteer limited amounts of time and do not want to belong to an agency. To tap into this resource, the Volunteer Cadre has been implemented. These volunteers will be required to volunteer 8 hours per month to Public Safety and in turn they will be given uniforms and the tools necessary to perform at their level of training and will be stationed as needed throughout the County. If you have any questions regarding the cadre, contact Billy.

In an effort to keep everyone up to date on the Standard Operating Guidelines, each meeting a guideline will be reviewed and updated, if needed. This month a review was done on the Handling of a DOA. Also, the SOGs are available on the website or we can provide your department with a hard copy if needed. Contact Billy for more information regarding the SOGs.

Questions and Comments were called for.

The meeting was adjourned.
