 The Franklin County Department of Social Services is one of 120 local departments in Virginia's public social services system. The Department is an agency of county government which administers federal, state, and local public assistance and social work service programs.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

  • CommonHelp - CommonHelp is a web-based system that allows Virginia citizens 24/7 easy access to screen and apply for Cash Assistance (TANF), Child Care Services, Energy Assistance (Fuel, Crisis and Cooling), Food Assistance (SNAP) and Medical Assistance.  See link at left!
  • Apply for a job at the Department of Social Services.  See link at left!
  • EFFECTIVE 09-01-12 - SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) will be changing its current benefit issuance schedule from a 1st of the month issuance to a staggered schedule.  Three additional benefits issuance days (4th, 7th and 9th) will be added to the program's benefit issuance calendar.  The benefit issuance date will be determined by the last digit of the household's ADAPT case number.  This change will take place over two months to provide the least amount of impact on current recipients.
