Adult Probation & Parole
The Adult Probation and Parole Department prepares background investigations of defendants for the Circuit Court, and supervises individuals placed on probation by the courts and offenders paroled by the Virginia Parole Board.

Circuit Court
The Circuit Court of the County of Franklin, part of the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia, is the court of record in the County and has general jurisdiction of all types of cases - civil, equity, and criminal.

Clerk of the Circuit Court
The Clerk of the Circuit Court is responsible for various recording, docketing, and filing duties for the Circuit Court.

Commonwealth Attorney
The Commonwealth's Attorney represents the State in criminal cases and is the chief prosecuting officer for Franklin County.

General District Court
The General District Court decides all criminal offenses involving ordinances, laws, and bylaws of the State, County, and Town, and all misdemeanors. The Court also decides civil cases in which the amount in question does not exceed $25,000.

Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court
The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court handles cases involving child, juvenile, and family matters.

Juvenile Drug Court
In 2009 under the direction of Judge Sarah Rice and then Commonwealth’s Attorney Cliff Hapgood, the Franklin County Juvenile Drug Court Program was started. The Franklin County Juvenile Drug Court is 1 of 7 Juvenile Drug Courts in the State of Virginia.

Magistrate
Magistrates are authorized to issue arrest and search warrants, Emergency and Temporary Custody Orders, and Emergency Protective Orders. They are also authorized to commit to jail and admit to bail persons charged with offenses.

Sheriff
The Sheriff of Franklin County, a constitutional officer elected for a term of four years, is responsible for law enforcement services, maintaining courtroom security at each of the courts, operation of the jail, transporting prisoners and mental patients, and serving civil papers in the County.
