George Tawes Jr_

George has been part of the Smith Mountain Community forever! Just ask anyone. With over 60 years of Public Safety experience, George, formerly Chief of the SML Marine Division, is now with Scruggs VFRD. He is also part of more community organizations then can be named. We asked George why he volunteers and his answer was, "It’s in my DNA; my mom volunteered for Boy Scouts and church groups". Currently, George devotes himself to training and driving Med 10. He always seems to be available for anything that comes up. He is more than willing to help answer a member’s questions or demonstrate how something works. His enthusiasm seems boundless. He said, “There’s a personal satisfaction when you volunteer, in helping your neighbors, and it’s payback for all the good things the community provides"

Thanks for all you do George!
